Irene Curran Obituary
1942 - 2026
Wakefield - Irene Curran, formerly of Wakefield, passed away in Danvers on March 21 following a long illness.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of Grace (Galligan) and Thomas Curran, and resided on Lovers Leap Avenue. She attended Sewell-Anderson and St. Mary's elementary schools, graduating from Saint Mary's High School in 1959. For many years, she remained an active member of the St. Mary's Choir.
She graduated from Salem State College in 1964 with her degree in Elementary Education. That fall, she began her 40-year career teaching the third grade in Nahant, where she was known for avoiding the color yellow. While teaching, she earned her Master's Degree in Geography through Salem State's part-time program.
Irene resided in Wakefield, most recently on Muriel Avenue where she could frequently be seen walking in the neighborhood.
She enjoyed traveling with many friends internationally and throughout the United States. Irene was also active in the Wakefield Garden Club and volunteered in production support with Wakefield's Cable Television Station (WCAT).
She leaves behind: her brother and his wife Thomas and Kathleen Curran of Topsfield; niece Maura Maher and her family – husband Nate and children Lily and Andrew; nephew Kevin and his family – wife Briana and children Anderson and Zachary; and many dear friends.
Irene's family would like to thank the staffs at The Atrium on Veronica Drive in Danvers and at Care Dimensions for the wonderful care they provided Irene.
Service Information: Her memorial visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 4-7PM in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St (Rt 1A), Lynn. Her funeral mass will be on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 10AM in St. Mary's Church, 8 South Common St., Lynn. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent in Irene's honor to: Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. My condolences to "Tommy" and the Curran family. We lived across the street at 157 Bellevue Road back in the 40s and 50s. My brother Dave, sister Ruth and I always looked back fondly on those years. My wife and I will keep you in our prayers and encourage you to look back on the good times with Irene with a smile.
