Salem - James K. Smith, 76, a resident of Salem, passed away on October 27, 2023, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Jean M. (Iwanicki) Smith with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Boston and raised in Revere and Lynn, he was the son of the late George L. and Michaelena (Albano) Smith. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School and attended several years at Northeastern University. He left Northeastern to work in various fields and later joined his father in his trucking business. Following the death of his father, he sold the business after several years. Jim's career for thirty years was as a heavy duty equipment operator for the Salem Power Plant. He retired due to health issues.
Jim was a devoted and loving uncle to his nephews. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel. He enjoyed working around their home and was the consummate fixer-upper in home and car repairs.
In addition to his loving wife Jean, he is survived by his brother, George Smith and sister, Laura Donnelly both of Las Vegas, NV and nephews, Jarrett Dube and his family of California and Joshua Dube and his wife of Topsfield. He was predeceased by his nephew Jason Dube.
