Jean Malcolm Obituary

Jean Lucille Malcolm, 88
Swampscott - Jean L. Malcolm, 88, of Swampscott passed peacefully from this life and went home to God on November 11th. She was at Salem Hospital with her daughter Mary by her side.
Jean came into this world in Lynn on a cold, snowy evening in February 1937. She joined her parents Harold and Sadie (Gilhooley) Adams along with her older sister, Anne.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Institute, attended St. Mary's High School, and graduated from Lynn English High School with high honors in 1955. Jean enthusiastically attended her 70th high school reunion in September of this year at Mission on the Bay. After graduation from high school, Jean enjoyed taking psychology classes at Harvard Extension School and theology classes at the Jesuit Center in Boston.
Jean had a lengthy career in banking and auditing. She was ahead of her time, making her career the focus of her attention in her younger years. She was in line to become one of the vice presidents at the Merchant's Cooperative Bank in Boston before marrying and deciding to start a family.
Jean met her husband Jim (the gentle giant) at the Boathouse in Wakefield in 1956. She quickly recognized that behind his handsome exterior was a gentleman who quietly embodied kindness, integrity, loyalty, intelligence, humor, love of God, and patience. They married in 1971 and welcomed their daughter in July of 1973. Per God's will, Jim was called home to heaven in December of that very same year. Jean, with unshakable faith and trust in God, bought her home in 1978 and raised her daughter in Swampscott.
She taught CCD at St. John the Evangelist for 13 years, imparting the gift of faith and knowledge of God to young minds. She steadfastly cared for her mother and father as they aged. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, walks on the beach, dining out and reading, especially any material that would increase her faith and help her understand God's will for her. Jean was known for spreading kindness, joy, and humor wherever she went.
Jean was predeceased by her mother, father, sister, and husband. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Mary T. Malcolm of Swampscott, nieces Jean Duffy, Michele Gerondeau, and Lisa Marie Gerondeau, nephew and godson Peter Gerondeau, her treasured friends Mary Paine, Marie DiFranco, and Linda Jordan, and her cherished aide Yami.
Service Information: Visiting hours will be held at the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St., Lynn, MA on Friday, November 21st from 4 until 8 pm. Her funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott, at 10 am on Saturday November 22nd. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
