Joseph Gibney Obituary

LYNN -- Joseph P. Gibney, 69, of Lynn, died in the Brockton Veterans Administration Hospital on Tuesday March 12, 2019 after a long illness. He was born in Lynn, the son of the late  Francis J. "Arlie"? and Muriel (Galvin) Gibney. He was raised in Lynn and lived in Lynn all of his life. He was a 1967 graduate of Lynn Trade High School and a graduate of Salem State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. Joe was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as a sergeant  and received the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Naval Achievement Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. He served during the Tet Offensive, Khe Sanh 1968-1969. He was a member of the Third Marine Division and the 20th Marine Division. He was a member of the DAV, the VFW, Marine Corps League, Captain Jennifer Harris Detachment. Joe was a veterans' advocate and helped many. He was a giving individual who often did kind works anonymously. He served as a Eucharistic Minister in the former St. Patrick's Church and while in Vietnam. Joe was a private investigator for many years, and prior to that he worked as a steward for Eastern Air Lines. Joe is survived by his brothers and sisters, Rev. James C. Gibney and his wife Ruth of Brockton, Maureen F. Gibney Crouse of Rowley, Thomas J. Gibney and his wife Charlene of Marblehead, Sharleen N. Cole and her husband Michael of Lynn; several nieces and nephews and countless friends. Service information: His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 10 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 11 a.m. Burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Lynn English Junior Marine Corps ROTC, 50 Goodridge St., Lynn, MA 01902.
