Laura Fleming Obituary

AMESBURY - Laura Hazel Fleming, of Amesbury, age 94, passed away peacefully on Dec. 14, 2014, surrounded by her family.Laura was born to Lawrence and Leah McGrath on Aug. 27, 1920 in Lynn. She moved to Amesbury in 1950, living for 64 years on her beloved Lake Attitash.She worked as a nurse at Amesbury Hospital for much of her life, and continued to be an at-home care provider for many years after retirement.Those who knew Laura will remember her as a gregarious, optimistic, loving, strong-willed and joyful person. She was an inspiration to everyone she met, and truly knew how to live life to the fullest. She had a lifelong love of the outdoors, which over the years included boating, snowmobiling, golfing and spending time at her Sebago Lake campsite every summer. She made new friends within minutes wherever she went, even at the age of 94.Laura is survived by her children, Francis Fleming Jr. and Laurie DeSesa; daughter-in-law Rita Fleming; grandchildren Jill Fleming, Mark Fleming and Michael DeSesa; siblings Larry, Jimmy, Mickey and Jean McGrath, and great-grandchildren, Maggie, Keira and Shaw. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, son Jamie, and siblings Ernie, Claire, Dorothy, Marie and Charlie.Service information: The family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 4-8 p.m. at the E.V. JUTRAS & SONS Funeral Home, 118 Friend St. in Amesbury. Funeral service on Friday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 9 Sparhawk St., Amesbury.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake Attitash Association, P.O. Box 503, Amesbury, MA 01913, or at lakeattitash.org. This is an organization dedicated to preserving Lake Attitash for future generations, a cause dear to Laura's heart.
