Laurence Galante Obituary

Laurence J. Galante, 82
1942 - 2025
South Hamilton - The kindest and most devoted father, grandfather and husband has passed on to heaven after a brief illness in the early morning hours of January 9th, 2025. He will be deeply missed by his family and many lifelong friends he held so dear.
Retired Swampscott Fire Chief, Laurence John Galante was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on July 27th, 1942 to Pasquale (Pat) and Philomina (Phyllis) Galante, and grew up in the city of Lynn. Larry was driven to higher education and used all of his degrees in his multifaceted careers. He taught accounting and finance classes at a college in Andover MA while also working as a reserve fire fighter in the town of Swampscott. When the opportunity came to be a full-time firefighter, he jumped at it and never looked back. He had a very fulfilling 35-year career. He was a Captain for 22 years followed by the honor of representing his department as their Chief for his last 5 years. After retirement, he held the position of Executive Director for The Essex County Fire Chiefs Associations. During his early years with the fire department, he went back to college and received several degrees including his MBA. He was an Enrolled Agent and had a tax practice and financial planning business for over 45 years. His clients were like family to him. The job he held most dear to his heart was that of Grandfather. His grandchildren brought all the light into his life and he returned that light with love and laughter in his silly "Bampy" style.
Larry is survived by his wife, Dolly (Serwacki) Galante with whom he shared a blessed life for 29 years. His devoted daughter, Alyssa L Galante and her partner, Garrett (Gary) Sexton, his son, Jon (Barry) Anderson and his wife, Gina M Anderson and their two children, Isaac and Reagan. He also held a special place in his heart for our honorary granddaughter, Emily D Bresnahan. He leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends that he cherished beyond measure. Bring a good bourbon and cigar and you were friends for life.
Service Information: His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey St., Swampscott, Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed to his two favorite charities: Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org) or to MSPCA Angell Memorial Animal Hospital (www.mspca.org). So sorry to hear of Larry's passing. Just saw him at our High School reunion. We talked and had a great time. The last thing he said to me was let's get together soon. He was a great friend and I'm so sorry we didn't get together. He will be missed.
