Marlene Hegarty Obituary

SAUGUS -- Mrs. Marlene H. (Amery) Hegarty, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was the beloved wife of William Hegarty, with whom she spent 63 years of marriage. Born and raised in Saugus, Marlene was the daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Greene) Amery. She was a librarian for many years at the Saugus Public Library. Upon her retirement she and her husband Bill spent their summers on Nantucket, where she became an accomplished fisherwoman and won many awards for both surf and pond fishing. Marlene was a member of the Nantucket Anglers Club and she also took great joy in watching her grandsons' sporting events. In addition to her husband, Marlene is survived by her four sons, William Jr. and his wife Maureen of Saugus, James and his wife Barbara of Danvers, Daniel of Saugus and David of Billerica; four grandsons, Matthew of Vermont, Ryan of Beverly, Nicholas of Saugus and D.J. of Saugus. She was predeceased by her sisters, Paula Tavernelli and Sandra Cranston, and her brother, Edward (Sonny) Amery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the New Friends of the Saugus Public Library, 295 Central St., Saugus, MA, 01906. Service information: Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the BISBEE-PORCELLA Funeral Home, 549, Lincoln Ave., Saugus, on Thursday 4-8 p.m. All other services will be private per the family's request.
