Patricia Hourihan, 75
1950 - 2025
Lynn - Patricia Hourihan, 75, passed away on November 21st peacefully in her home, embraced by family after a long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Peter Psarros; and formerly, to the late Daniel F. Hourihan, with whom she raised three children: Shawn P. Hourihan, Erin B. (Hourihan) LeColst, and Kelly A. Hourihan (Winchester). She is the loving grandmother of Eric LeColst and Logan Arsenault.
Patricia was born in Lynn on March 3rd, 1950 to the late Howard Kramer and Mary (Gilbride) Kramer-the same day as her father, and her late sister Katherine (Kramer) Prunier. Her early years were spent in Lynn, until her family moved to Peabody in the late 1950's. She attended St. John's in Peabody, and then Bishop Fenwick High School until the death of her mother in 1964, whereupon she transferred to Peabody High School, graduating in 1967.
At the urging of a few good teachers and guidance counselors, Pat went on to North Shore Community College, and then to Salem State College as an English Major, with a Secondary Education Minor- she became the first in her family to receive a college degree. She tutored and homeschooled in Peabody for a brief stint before her enduring, 30 + year career in the Lynn Public School System. From Cobbett, to Lynn English, and finally Lynn Classical-her love, Patricia spent over thirty years teaching, nurturing, and loving all of the children of Lynn. She retired as a National Board Certified Teacher (one of two in Lynn, at that time), an Advanced Placement Certified Teacher, and the English Department Head at Lynn Classical High School in 2009.
Pat never met a student she couldn't reach, or a problem she couldn't surmount. Despite family struggles, and waitressing at night, she continued her own education and earned a Master's Degree in Education, so as to better serve her family and community. Seeing a growing need, Pat taught English as a Second Language at North Shore Community College at night throughout the 90's, in addition to her waitressing job, and mainstream English Language Arts day job- teaching College Placement, Honors, and Advanced Placement Language and Composition at Lynn Classical High School. She helped everyone-she couldn't not.
Community involvement and service have always been important to her: from running her son's Cub Scout Troop, her daughters' Girl Scout Troops, to volunteering in Church bazaars, school Dance-a-thons, Special Olympics trainings, etc. Pat was never one to say no to a challenge-especially if it supported the local community, and especially, the local children. She was the first Lynn Classical Team Leader at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at Red Rock Park. Despite age and ailments, she went all in for an over-nighter supervising kids-It has always been very important to her to foster engagement and activism in younger generations.
Pat leaves behind her husband, Peter Psarros, her son Shawn Hourihan and his partner Amanda Lowell and her son Ashton Lowell of Hampton Falls, NH; her daughter Erin LeColst and her partner Anthony Arsenault and their children Eric LeColst and Logan Arsenault of Lynn; her daughter Kelly Hourihan and her husband David Winchester of Lynn, and several cousins and nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 28 from 4-8pm at Cuffe McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St. Lynn MA, and a funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 29th at 10am at St. Pius V. 215 Maple St.
