Paula A. Belyea, 76
1949 - 2025
Lynn - Paula A. Belyea, 76, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 26, 1949, Paula lived a life deeply rooted in faith, kindness, and devotion to those she loved.
Paula was the beloved daughter of the late John and Pauline DeGusto. She was born in Boston and spent her early years living in South Boston before her family moved to their home in Wakefield.
She was the devoted wife of the late Paul J. Belyea, with whom she shared 36 wonderful years of marriage. Paula now rejoins him in eternal rest, embraced by God's grace.
She was a loving sister to the late Aleta DeGusto; Joan DeGusto and her late husband Vance Burnham; Allen DeGusto; Paul DeGusto; Janine Dougherty and her husband Kevin; and Christine Corbett and her husband Mark. Paula was a cherished aunt to her nieces Ashley John, Kelsey Corbett, and Katherine DeGusto; and to her nephews Christopher and Nicholas DeGusto. She was also a proud great aunt to Connor and Cameron John.
A graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1967, Paula went on to hold several administrative positions throughout her career. However, her greatest passion was her devotion to her faith. A devout Catholic, Paula lived her beliefs daily-her faith guided her through life's joys and sorrows, and she was a steady example of God's love to all who knew her.
In addition to her faith, Paula had a deep appreciation for history and tradition. In 1981, she joined an 18th century reenactment group portraying the British 74th Regiment of Foot, Light Infantry Company, where she participated as a camp follower and cook. It was through this shared passion that she met her future husband, Paul Joe Belyea. Together, they were active participants in reenactments for 27 years, taking part in 18th century encampments, battle reenactments, and living history events. They enjoyed years of camaraderie and adventure while traveling to gatherings across Massachusetts and throughout the country. The friendships they built and the memories they created through this unique community remained dear to Paula's heart for the rest of her life.
Their love for the regiment and for the 18th century era was so strong that when they married in 1983, they chose to celebrate their wedding in full period style. Paula wore a beautiful 18th century inspired gown lovingly made for her by her sister Joan, and Paul proudly wore his officer's uniform. All of their wedding participants dressed in period clothing, creating a day that was both deeply personal and truly unforgettable.
Paula and Paul also loved to spend their vacation time on Prince Edward Island, a place that held special meaning for them both. They often included their nieces Ashley and Kelsey on these excursions, creating cherished family memories filled with laughter, love, and the simple joy of being together.
In later years, Paula found great joy in opening her home and heart to the neighborhood children. She loved spending time with them-playing games, helping with schoolwork, and sharing stories. She especially cared for Wilson both before and after school for the past eight years, forming a special bond that reflected her kind and generous spirit.
Paula was an active and passionate parishioner of St. Adelaide's Parish in Peabody and a longtime member of several women's religious groups, most notably the Carmelites and the Daughters of the King.
A lover of music, Paula played the guitar and banjo and began singing in the church choir at the age of nine. Throughout her life, she continued to share her gift of song in several Catholic church choirs.
Though she will be deeply missed, Paula's family finds comfort in knowing she now rests in the loving arms of her Savior, reunited with those who went before her. May she rest in peace.
