Lynn - Richard T. Powell, 93, of Lynn, died on Monday, December 18, 2023 at his residence surrounded by family.
Richard was born in McMechen, West Virginia on January 31, 1930 and was the son of the late Percy and Frieda (Carroll) Powell.
Richard was raised in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Huntingdon High School, Class of 1947. After high school he enlisted in the military and served in the United States Army. He later moved to Massachusetts in 1951 and began working as a Firefighter for the city of Lynn, retiring as a Lieutenant. He loved crossword puzzles, telling stories, watching and playing Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. He was an avid Boston sports fan who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Richard was the beloeved husband of 70 years to Georgia Powell. He was the loving father of James F. Powell and his wife Donna of Lynn, and Thomas R. Powell and his wife Nancy of North Reading. He was the cherished grandfather of Jennifer Powell-Lurvey and her husband Edwin of Lynn, John Powell and his wife Katherine of Mansfield, TX., Nicholas Powell of North Reading and Andrew Powell of North Reading. He was the great-grandfather of Matthew, Elizabeth and Alexander Powell of Mansfield, TX. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eight siblings.
Service Information: A Funeral Service will be held in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 S Common St, Lynn on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held in the church prior to the service from 9-11am. Arrangements are in the care of the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, (Rt. 129), Lynn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 S. Common St., Lynn.
