Ronald Nickerson Obituary

Ronald "Wayne" Nickerson, 72

1949 - 2021

Danvers - Ronald "Wayne" Nickerson, known as Wayne or Nick of Lynn, Massachusetts held God's Hand and went for his final walk on Sept. 19th with his loving friend by his side. He is now free from the suffering of Parkinson's Disease & Cancer. He tragically lost his mobility to walk 2 years ago and rallied such courage as a bed patient.

Wayne was born on March 23 1949 in Lynn and spent his childhood in Saugus a town full of love and good neighbors.

He attended saugus shcools for his early education and then Riverside Boarding School for his High School years. He was a graduate of Leland Powers School of Acting and was cast in many local plays. Wayne continued his education with courses at Middlesex Community College for his love of writing and sociology studies.

His giving heart lead him to be employed as a home care assistant and friend to several men homebound in the City Of Lynn for many years. He also held various custodial positions over the years. His sister always wished he would have pursued being a tour guide one the N. Shore as he knew the history and museums inside and out.

Wayne, a beautiful, complex man was such a social man he could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved art and was a member of The Lynn Collaborative Arts, Poetry and was a member of The Out Of The Blue Gallery, Music and was a member of The Shuffling Smoothies Square Dancing Group. He had an amazing singing voice and joined The Bats in The Belfry in Lynn. He had a deep love of God and was a member of The Lynn Baptist Church, St. John's Episcopal Church in Saugus and The South End Neighborhood Church

Wayne enjoyed the Sunday Paper comic strip and followed Calvin& Hobbs, Peanuts, Garfield and saved them for later gift wrap. He loved flowers, bringing children into Boston for a walking tour, Wayne loved nature a passion that started young on the many adventures as a Boy Scout, the ocean, Teddy Bears, gathering stones on his adventures to add to his collection, gathering with friends and family and celebrating the Holidays, He loved to dance and did many a shuffle with a child aboard the top of his shoes. He loved Desserts and all things Chocolate.

Wayne was unable to drive and that stopped his love of travel. Those feet were made for walking and walk he did. There was not a place he desired to visit that wasn't available by foot, bus, train or plane to get him there. He traveled to California to visit his cousin and never left the state without being in San Francisco for a day or two. He made many trips to N.Y. City to see the Christmas Displays and take in a Broadway Show. He joined a Christian Volunteer group on a trip to El Salvador and traveled throughout Europe on a trip he made with friends. That trip they will remember his quick whit as the van they rented was smelly and smelled like cheese and Wayne burst into song... The Cheese stands alone...

Wayne will be remembered for his quick whit and humor, his love of literature and his sisters favorite bedtime reading of James Whitcomb Riley's Little Orphant Annie as he sent her off to bed. Wayne loved animals especially his dear cat Moe.

Wayne was the eldest son of and preceded by his mother Marie A. ( Picardy) Nickerson, his father Ronald W. Nickerson. He is survived by loving sister "Sis" R. Nicki Nickerson of Porter, Maine., brother Bruce L Nickerson & his spouse Sharon of Jeffersonville, N.Y., his brother Gary Nickerson and his wife of Porter, Maine. And his nieces & nephews Eric, Christopher, Crystal and Courtney Nickerson and Kara & Matt Healy and their children. He is also survived by his dear friend and significant loved one Judith Butler of Somerville. Her love and devotion and care during his life and care is so appreciated and respected. Her dedication to deliver him snacks and flowers and something joyful during Covid shuts downs and her inability to be at his side admirable. Navigating Covid and a loved one in Nursing care it was not an easy past year. The family is blessed that she was at his side when his spirit set sail. He is also survived by the members of his chosen family/friends The Costa Family. Martha & Ruy Costa, Raquel, Lidia Costa, Sarah& Rob Yuen and their son David and Sandra "Sunny" & James Bensson. As well as dear cousins for which he had a special fondness Samantha & Carolyn Whitehouse.

The family & Judith wish to thank The Brentwood Nursing Care and Dr . Eric Reines for Wayne's Care

I am so enlightened to know Wayne found such a exciting and loved life. He will be missed by all. Wayne was a childhood neighbor and I am so happy he found a great place in this world to be himself.

Bruce and family,
I have nothing but fond memories of Wayne and his erudite comments on a wide variety of subjects, when we were at SHS. He did indeed have an encyclopedic knowledge of the North Shore, and was an irrepressible walker. I am sorry that his final years precluded the ability to get around in the way he treasured. My deepest condolences on your loss.
