Nahant - Rosemarie (Marmo) Tirrell, age 97, of Nahant, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. She was the loving wife of the late Charles E. Tirrell. Born and raised in East Boston, she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Giovanina (LaBella) Marmo. She lived in Nahant for several years and then resided in Hatboro, Pennsylvania from 1962-1999. While in Pennsylvania, she spent summers in Nahant before moving back permanently in 1999. Rose was a proud graduate of Girls' Latin School, class of 1945. She went on to graduate from Boston University in 1949 where she earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Rose, the daughter of immigrants, was feisty and ambitious, so it's no surprise she was twice elected president of her class at the College of Liberal Arts at BU. She was a determined woman who never let her gender define her goals. She pursued higher education at a time when few women were encouraged to do so and after earning her degree, she embarked on a career as a chemist-breaking barriers long before it was common or expected.
In 1951, she married the love of her life, Charlie Tirrell. Together, they built a home filled with love, warmth, laughter, and constant activity as they raised six daughters. Her family was the center of her world, and she dedicated herself fully to nurturing, guiding, and cheering on her girls in every chapter of their lives.
Her legacy is one of quiet strength, love, and a belief in the power of hard work. She will be remembered for her kindness, her intellect, her sense of humor, her lovable nature and her faith. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Nahant.
She was the cherished mother of Joan Tirrell (Clem Ceccarelli) of Warwick, NY, Barbara Tirrell Bauer (Michael) of New York, NY, Kathleen Johnson (Vince) of Huntington, NY, Nancy Paravano (Philip) of Horsham, PA, Loreen Tirrell (Lou Wallach) of Nahant, and Elaine White (William) of Nahant. She also leaves nine loving grandchildren Sean Paravano (Casey), Emily Paravano, Jason Paravano, Samantha White (Amber Ward), Kurtis White (Gail Canne), Tess Johnson (Joel Colucci), Ian Ceccarelli, Albert Wallach and Katie Wallach and two great-grandchildren Archer Shaffer Paravano, and Charlotte James Ward White, as well as many extended family members who will forever carry her spirit forward. She was predeceased by her three brothers and three sisters; Tony, Fred, and Joe Marmo, Caroline Matt, Ernestine Vecchio and Antoinette Parmet.
Service Information: Her funeral will be held on Saturday, December 6 at 10 AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street, (Rt. 1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday, December 5 from 4-7 PM.
