PEABODY - Thomas James McGrath III, 87, loving husband of Rose Papanickolas-McGrath of Peabody, Mass., died Sunday, March 30, in the presence of his wife and family at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, Fla., after a 38-day illness.The Papanickolas and McGrath families rejoiced when Tom and Rose married in the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody in a memorable ceremony officiated by three priests, the Rev. Christopher Foustoukos, Peabody, Rev. George Tsoukalas, Lynn, and Rev. John McGinnis of St. John R.C. Church, Peabody.Mr. McGrath was employed by the General Electric Corporation upon his graduation from Lehigh University in 1950 and continued working with GE and its subsidiary, Honeywell Information Systems, through his retirement in 1983. Mr. McGrath's career with General Electric and Honeywell included both United States and international assignments in finance. Since his retirement in 1983, Mr. McGrath made his home in Chatham, Mass., for 20 years before relocating more recently to Newburyport and Peabody, Mass.Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Marinel D. McGrath and her husband, Gary N. Oakes, of Byfield, Mass., Stephanie M. and Charles R. Corbo of Norwalk, Conn., and Thomas J. McGrath IV and his wife, Tracy, of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; his grandchildren, Diana Corbo Carvajal and her husband, Andres, of Hollywood, Fla., Christopher R. Corbo of Norwalk, Conn., Brian P. McGrath of Wellesley, Mass., Emily E. McGrath of N.Y., and the Papanickolas family of Peabody, Emmanuel N. and his wife, Georgia, Crystal Catina Papanickolas, Nicholas E. and Kristin Papanickolas, Angelia "Lia" Rose Papanickolas and Emmanuel "Mikey" Papanickolas. He was predeceased by his previous wife, Dolores J. (Stephanak) McGrath, and his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and E.
