William Martin Obituary

William Pierce "Billy" Martin, 80
1944 - 2025
Andover, MA - William Pierce "Billy" Martin, 80, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on December 2, 1944, in Brattleboro, Vermont, and grew up in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where he formed lifelong friendships and deep community roots.
Billy attended St. Mary's High School in Lynn, MA, where he first began dating the love of his life, Sheila Irene McManus, whom he always said he first fell in love with when they met in the third grade. He continued his education at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, before beginning what would become a remarkable 45-year career with Chesterton, where he excelled as a gifted and dedicated salesperson.
A lifelong athlete and lover of sports, Billy played football and baseball in his younger years and continued to enjoy softball later in life in Nahant, MA. He and Sheila were avid golfers who played together for decades. He was a passionate supporter of all Boston sports teams-especially the New England Patriots, for whom he was a season ticket holder for more than 40 years. He cherished gatherings with family and friends, often hosting events that brought people together and filled his home with laughter, conversation, and connection.
Above all, Billy will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his deep love of family and friends, and his ability to talk to absolutely anyone. He brought warmth and approachability to every room he entered and fostered relationships that spanned decades.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila Irene McManus Martin; his daughter, Julie Martin Twomey, and son-in-law Kevin Twomey; his son, John Francis Martin, and daughter-in-law Stacey Turner and his beloved grandchildren Jack Twomey, Ryan Twomey, and Ava Martin. He is also survived by his siblings Katherine Hawke, Mary Cadigan, Elizabeth Ruane, and Jerry Martin; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and a great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Francis Martin and Katherine Foley Martin, and his older brother, Michael Martin.
In accordance with his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in the near future, where family and friends can come together to honor his memory.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Service Information: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Dimensions, the hospice organization that provided compassionate care to Billy in the final weeks of his life:
