August Huchting Obituary

August Huchting August "Gus" George Huchting, son of Henry and Elizabeth Oden Huchting of San Marcos, CA, passed away August 7, 2002, at his home in Jacksonville, FL. Gus is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth, and their son George. Gus was born and raised in San Marcos, attende d college in Los Angeles and spent the majority of his life in the Ontario, Upland and Alta Loma area of Southern California. Gus and his wife owned a paint and interior decorating business in Ontario for many years. Later Gus earned his MA degree and taught in the Ontario-Upland School District. He was a long time member of St. George's Catholic Church in Ontario and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alta Loma. Gus was recognized by Pope John Paul II and Bishop Straling for his work in support of the people in his parishes. Gus was a life member of the BPO Elks and a member of the California Retired Teachers Association. In 1999, Gus and Elizabeth relocated to Jacksonville, FL to be closer to their son. On Friday, August 16, 2002 at 10 a.m., funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Marks Deer Springs Mission Church in San Marcos followed by interment in the San Marcos Cemetery. A memorial mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Paul's Catholic Churh in Jacksonville Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant House, a Catholic charity for runaway and homeless children, at 733 Breakers Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304- 4196 or the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc, at 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257. California arrangements are under the care of Alhiser-Comer Mortuary in Escondido.
