HOWARD W. CHAPMAN

died Aug. 1 in Alta Loma. He was 82. Mr. Chapman was born in Buffalo, Okla., Dec. 26, 1927 and moved to San Bernardino when he was 6 months old. He later lived in Pomona for a short time, and then in Ontario until 1975, when he moved to Chapparal Heights Mobile Home Park in Alta Loma. He lived there 35 years. He worked at the General Electric Flat Iron Plant in Ontario in 1947, and then again from 1952 to 1958, when he went to General Dynamics in Pomona, where he worked as a computer programmer for 32 years before he retired in 1989 as a data processing specialist. In 1945 Mr. Chapman served in the Merchant Marines on the S.S. Francis Wilson Liberty ship, on which he traveled to South America and France. In 1948 he served in the California National Guard, Medical Company, in Upland, until his company was shipped to Japan in 1950, and then to Korea, where he worked as a medic during the Korean War. He attended South Euclid Elementary, Vina F. Danks Junior High and Chaffey High School in Ontario, and took classes at Chaffey College, Mt. Sac and Cal Poly. Mr. Chapman enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cards, bowling, shuffleboard, bingo, bunco and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Maxine; two sons, Bill of Ontario and Steve of Redlands; a daughter, Sandy of Santa Rosa; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be Monday at noon at Draper Mortuary in Ontario, followed by interment at Bellevue Memorial Park. Visitation will begin Monday at 10 a.m.
