LOIS COOPER Obituary

who built her nest egg through thriftiness, yard sales, and coupon clipping, died on October 15, 2009 from acute myeloid leukemia at t he age of 82. Frugality was the backbone of her life. Maybe you were fortunate enough to get a bargain at Lois's quarterly yard sales on Monroe Avenue. Or you could have seen her cruising in her 1964 Black Cadillac to work at Pomona First Federal. Retiring from PFF after forty-three years, Lois was deeply concerned about their demise, the crash of their stock, and the welfare of PFF friends. Knowing Lois, you would have never guessed that she was born and raised in the small town of Beatrice, Nebraska. In 1958, she boarded the train to move her mother and two young children to Pomona, California where she lived until 2005 when she relocated to be near her daughter and son-in-law in Grand Junction, Colorado. Prior to moving Lois enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and cruises with her friend Suzy. After moving, she missed all her other PFF friends as well. We were all blessed to know Lois through her cleverness, her easy laugh and her fierce loyalty to her family and friends. Always resourceful, Lois could repa ir anything. Also creative, she left her family her original painted rocks, planters, birdhouses and wall hangings. Lois could out last any of us at Canasta or any other card game. We can still hear her challenge, "You can't be ready for bed yet. Why in Pomona, we'd play all night. Whose deal is it?" Lois's greatest joy and proudest accomplishments were her two children, Kathryn Ann (Doug), Grand Junction, Colorado and James David (Beverley), Salt Lake City, Utah. Lois died in Salt Lake City, Utah where she was seeking medical attention. She was preceded in death by her friend and companion Bob Ramsey. No services are planned. I had the honor of working with Lois at PFF. I too was a long time, loyal PFF employee and remember Lois as a hard working dedicated employee. I was glad to hear she moved closer to her family - for without family we have nothing. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
