Margaret Baird Obituary

Margaret Adams Baird was born January 28, 1929 in Pomona, California and passed away on November 13, 2015 in Santa Rosa, California. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, George Melbourne Baird. Margaret is survived by their three children, Gregory Baird of Santa Rosa (Kristine), Janice Kropp of Grass Valley (John) and Diane Dutra of Castro Valley (Tim). She was a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren, Katie Baird Dolan (Tim), Callan Baird, Kendra Baird, Jennie Kropp Leatherman (Matt), Kirsten Dutra Riche (Justin) and Derek Dutra (Nicole) and a loving great-grandmother to her four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Molly, and Matt Dolan, and Aubrey Riche. Margaret is also survived by her sister, Kay Edgerton, and brother, Stan Adams (Beth). She was also a caring Auntie Marg to her nephews and nieces.

Margaret and George were high school sweethearts and attended their beloved Pomona High where she was a song leader. Margaret and George remained close to many of their classmates through the years. They loved helping to organize class reunions for the PHS class of '46 for over 60 years. Margaret attended Mt. San Antonio Junior College and was hired by the telephone company as a long distance operator.

With the birth of their first child, Marg became a stay-at-home mother, staying active in their church, Pilgrim Congregational Church, and the PTA. Through PTA, she met her lifelong friend, Jean McKee, sharing her passion for books and reading. Once their children reached high school, Marg became a secretary at Pilgrim Congregational Church where she served for 20 years. She was very helpful to George with the Boys' Brigade at Pilgrim, and enjoyed many decades of participating in the Side-by-Side couples' group, and helping with church rummage sales.

Marg was an avid sports fan, always with a scorebook in hand, cheering on her beloved Dodgers and Angels. She loved fine art, music, and animals, especially the family dogs. Marg and George enjoyed many road trips, and when George rode his bicycle across the United States in 1995, she drove the support van so that he could achieve his goal. They also traveled to Australia and Europe, including attending the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Margaret and George moved to Santa Rosa in 2011 to be nearer to their children.

I had the honor of knowing & working with Marg at Pilgrim Church in late 70's where I was the Christian Education secretary. She was such a great person and was always there when I needed someone to talk to. She will be missed by so many people that she touch in her life. RIP Marg.

A Beautiful Tribute to an amazing, Loving Wife, Mother and Friend to everyone who knew her. She had a beautiful smile and welcomed everyone to her home. I had the honor and privilege along with La of caring for Marg and George. I will never forget the laughs, jokes, and stories. It is tremendous relief that once again they are together for eternity. I Loved them both so very much.

A very fitting tribute to a very special lady, who I loved very much. She was a second "mom" to me and I can still hear her laugh! She raised wonderful children, who also hold a very special place in my heart. She was devoted to her family, her church and her friends. I doubt that any ever felt forgotten or neglected by Marg. She married a swell guy, and together, they were an invincible team. May God continue to bless her, as she was reunited with her lifelong love and partner. Special thanks to Greg, Diane and Janice who, together with their spouses, took such great care of them both in their declining health. You were lucky to have them and they were truly blessed to have you. My most heartfelt sorrow and condolences in the loss of you mother.
