Muriel Moore Obituary

Muriel Cowan Moore was called from this life by her Heavenly Father, Savior, and Comforter on December 4, 2005. Muriel was born March 22, 1917 at her grandmother's home in Los Angeles, CA and was the great-granddaughter of C.W. Harvey, one of the founders of Whittier, CA. She was a graduate of North Hollywood High School and Pasadena Ci ty College. Muriel was the 1935 Queen of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and this past year was the longest surviving Rose Queen. She was married on Dec. 21, 1938 to Ernest H. Moore and in 1998 would have celebrated their 60th Anniversary. Ernie and Muriel lived in Arcadia before moving to Chino, CA in 1959, where she lived for 43 years. Her home on Yorba Avenue was used as a polling place for many elections. She was a teacher's aid for the Chino Unified School District where her gift of creating ma th learning aids and crafts was put to good use. She participated in the 1989 Rose Parade with several other former Rose Queens on the Kodak float titled "A Rose Queen is Forever." The last three years she has lived with her daughter in Apple Valley, CA. She is survived by her only child, Karen DeRose and son-in-law, Nick; five nephews; four nieces; three step-grandchildren and two step-great granddaughters. She was preceded in this life by her father, Sidney Foster Cowan, mother Gradys Marie Rubardt, b rother Cedric Donald Cowan and husband Ernest Howard Moore. A visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, December 7, 2005 at Griffith Mortuary in Chino. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Griffith Mortuary. Griffith Mortuary in charge of arrangements, 13002 Central Ave., Chino (909) 628-2329.
