Was Sonia Brandt from Canada originally? There was a Siona Brandt who taught as a French Specialist in Shawville Quebec from 1928 to 1931. The names are not totally the same, but close enough. Good teachers deserve to be remembered. Thank you,

My colleague and I still think of Sonia Brandt, and talk about our happy days of teaching. We both loved Sonia and we cherish the memories of all the times she subbed for us. She was the perfect example of a professional educator. As a now-retired teacher, I think of Sonia going on for another 25 years of teaching after her retirement, and I am amazed at her energy and work ethic. I am so proud to have known her.

Sonia was a wonderful lady and I was honored to have her as a friend. I knew her at Plummer Elementary School when she was substitute teaching there and she was also in my Delta Kappa Gamma educational sorority. 100 years old - how amazing! When I visited her in January of this year I said I never knew anyone who was 100 years old. She said she didn't either. Sonia was such a "lady" and so interesting. It was a pleasure knowing her.

MRS. Brandt you always will be in my heart, she was a beautiful lady, with a big heart, she was my favorite substitute teacher, she was always there for the children, always ready for them, I was a paraprofessional and I always request her. I just want to say "Thank you Mrs. Brandt" for your love and caring" My sympathy and my prayers for all her family. Lety Ramirez

Sonia Brandt was the consummate professional. I knew her as a substitute teacher who was always my first choice when I needed to be absent. She always came prepared, brought her own materials, in case there might not be a lesson plan, and was never a clock watcher. She came early to set up, and left materials for me to use upon my return to class. Sonia was very loving and patient with the children, whom she referred to as, "such dear children." She brought her own books and tape recorder in case there wouldn't be one in the room. She had stickers to reward them at the end of the day, and always mailed a thank you note to the paraprofessional for being such a help to her. Each September, I would receive a hand written letter, sending best wishes for my next year of teaching and to let me know she would be available to sub for me. How I missed those notes when she retired from subbing!! I kept in touch with Sonia by phone, notes, and Christmas cards until a few years ago. I still talk about her whenever teachers are discussing their favorite substitutes, and she still beats the others by a long shot! Sonia was a treasure, and I have never met another sub like her. I remember that she didn't need a long break, but did like to have a cookie at recess. I am sad for all the children who will never have a joyful "sub day" with her. I hope your family finds comfort in knowing that there are many, many teachers and children who were touched by this wonderful, sweet lady.
