Our sweet mother, Angie Torrez, 76, of Brawley, CA passed peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 16, 2021 at her home after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico on September 9, 1944 to Arnulfo and Inez Zamora. As a child, Angie was very adventurous. She liked spending time with her grandmother's livestock and helping her with food sales in her town of Gomez Farias. Later, Angie attended high school in Hamilton City and Imperial Valley College in California. Angie was a woman of faith, who proudly raised her children with tremendous love, affection, and tenderness. She taught them great morals as well as the importance of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Angie always expressed her never-ending love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Angie was known for her infectious laugh and kind, compassionate spirit. She worked as an ESL instructor, certified nurse's assistant, tutor, and was especially fond of working with the elderly at the Royal Convalescent. Her hobbies included reading, writing, cooking, shopping, sewing, gardening, singing karaoke, teaching her kids Spanish, and attending church. Angie was preceded in death by her father, Arnulfo Zamora; parents, Nicolas and Inez Aguilar; brothers, Carlos and Ramon Zamora; and her granddaughter, Sarah Renee Mata. Angie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Fernando (Maria) Mata, Patricia (Jaime) Martinez, Maribel (Chuck) Perez; grandchildren, Fernando Jr. (Lurdez) Mata, Jaime (Aracely), Adrian (Sarah), and Jasmine Martinez, Stephani, CJ, and Jacob Perez; siblings, Jorge Zamora, Rosa Garcia, Graciela Pacheco, Arturo Aguilar, Mayanin Aguilar, Lilly Lima, Eva Ramirez, Ernesto Ramirez, Carmen, Violeta, Consuelo, Alicia, and Arnulfo Zamora; and 10 great- grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 6 p.m. Morning services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 8 a.m., located at 490 W. D Street, in Brawley. Burial will follow immediately after at Riverview Cemetery.
