ELIAS HUERTA Obituary

ELIAS D. HUERTA

Apr. 28, 1932 – Oct. 6, 2025

Elias D. Huerta, 93, passed away peacefully at home in Holtville, California. A devoted educator, veteran, and beloved family man, Elias lived a life marked by service, scholarship, and kindness.

Born on April 28, 1932, Elias grew up in Arizona, where he first made his mark as a talented high school basketball player. In 1951, he was a proud member of the undefeated team that won the Arizona State Championship, a moment he treasured throughout his life.

His academic journey was briefly paused when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he attended the Counter-Intelligence School and served honorably as a field agent in Germany and the Bavarian Alps. Upon returning home, Elias completed his Bachelor's degree at Northern Arizona University and earned a Master's degree from Arizona State University.

In 1959, Elias began a distinguished 40-year career as a Spanish and Foreign Language teacher at Holtville High School. Generations of students remember him not only for his dedication to language and culture but also for his patience and wisdom.

Even in retirement, Elias continued to teach, sharing his love of learning and life with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed showing them how to play golf, passing down not just skills but cherished time together on the course.

Known and loved in his community, Elias was a familiar face whose kindness and humility left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Elias was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son, Steve Huerta. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Daniel; grandchildren, Nick, Chris, Derek, and Cori; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jameson, Owen, and Elias. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and the countless students whose lives he touched.

My condolences to the Huerta Family,
Mr. Huerta was a great educator and human being. I had him my freshman year of high school and have so many fond memories of him. He was well respected by everyone and a very influential teacher. I tell my daughters about an incident that happened in class with one of my peers. My friend and I were teasing him, and I called him "hipocrita". I remember Mr. Huerta asking me if I knew what it meant and I replied to him, isn't it like a very bad insult? Mr. Huerta just laughed and explained to me what the meaning of "hipocrita" meant. He had so much patience with me, he sure was the best. My God bring comfort to his loved ones and may his soul rest in peace.

It was 1964, I was a sophomore at HHS. A group of us were standing in the hallway waiting for morning class. We saw Mr Huerta approaching us with a smooth stroll of his. It was his first day of school. One of us commented "Hey look at him he's cool". He smiled and replied "Good morning gentlemen". He was the most influential person in my early life. His parents raised a great man. Vaya con Dios Mr Huerta.

Mr Huerta and Mr Morrow were my favorite teachers. i wrote him a letter a few years ago.I got such a sweet letter from him. I told him how I was able to use the Spanish he taught in my career as a registered nurse and on several mission trips to Guatemala. He was such a special man and special teacher that I will never forget!

Mr. Huerta was present, as a teacher, to four of the eight Pineda siblings, while at Holtville Union High. What a blessing this man was to all the students and the community. He earned my respect by the simple gesture while acknowledging everyone, his sweet smile and soft gentle voice.
He leaves a huge legacy, his family were blessed to have know and shared his walk though their lives. He will be greatly be missed but, I find comfort in knowing we will see and be with him and all our loves ones in heaven, at Gods appointed time
