GLENN CADREZ Obituary

GLENN EDWIN CADREZ

Sept. 30, 1948 – Oct. 18, 2024

Glenn Edwin Cadrez, of Wellton, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, at the age of 76, at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla due to heart complications. Glenn left this world surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.

Born on September 30, 1948, in San Francisco, Glenn grew up in Niland, California with a passion for the land and a heart for helping others. Glenn graduated from Calipatria High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. Glenn graduated from Imperial Valley College and went on to work for Safeway as a Produce Buyer for over 20 years before working at Circle Y Produce and eventually, starting his own company, Quality Fresh Farms. He spent decades in the fields of the Imperial Valley, including all over California, Arizona, and Mexico, sharpening his agricultural acumen with a special knack for growing watermelons.

A man of many passions, he had a deep appreciation for sports, food, produce, and watching the people he cherished especially his grandchildren enjoy life. One of his greatest pleasures was visiting Sea World and taking them shopping for new school clothes during the summer. In his later years, Glenn could be found enjoying a cup of coffee at the local Starbucks or at the movie theater checking out the latest release.

Known for his booming, infectious laugh, Glenn had a way of filling any room with warmth. His presence brought comfort to those around him, especially his beloved partner, Veronica.

Whether in the field, on the sidelines, or around the table for his signature "Glenn Cadrez Rice" at China Palace, he loved to celebrate the wins and learn from the losses.

His legacy lives on through the lives he touched: his family, friends, and community. Glenn leaves behind two children, Glenn E. Cadrez Jr. and Jaynee Cadrez Poulson; eight grandchildren, Tahnee Freda, Caylee Cadrez, Phoebee Cadrez, Keaton Cadrez, Kannon Cadrez, Bosten Van der Veur, Kambridge Van der Veur, and Ren Simon, who will forever carry his lessons with them; and one beautiful great grandchild, Gemma. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Debra Pruitt, Donna Peggins, Jean Holmes, and Frank Austin.

Glenn was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Maggie "Nanny" Hair; mother, Gladys Thomas; father, Louis Cadres; and brother, Loren Holmes.

A mass will be held at St. Mary's in El Centro, California on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. with a celebration of life to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ASPCA or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
