It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle; Henry "Kiki" Cortez passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born to Jose and Antonia Cortez on March 6, 1946, in Brawley, CA.
Henry united with Carmen Mendez and happily married for 45 years. They set their roots in Brawley and raised their sons, Robert, Steven, Michael, Rudy, and Ruben Morales. He provided for his family by working for the City of Brawley and various other jobs as a laborer until his disability.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Antonia Cortez; wife, Carmen; stepson, Steven Morales; and brothers, Manuel Lopez and Joe "Choco" Cortez.
He is survived by his sisters, Socorro Cornejo and Lupe (Mike) Cortez; nieces and nephews, Toni (Oscar) Carrillo, Monica (Ralph) Alcantar, Freddy (Isabel) Cornejo, Paul and Angela Cortez, and Dayna (Jesse) Lopez, Toni (Albert) Gastelum, and Larry (Patty) Lopez; stepsons; grandchildren; as well as a multitude of relatives and friends.
A viewing will be at Frye Chapel in Brawley on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 6 - 9 pm. Mass will be on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 10 am at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley, and burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately after the burial at the American Citizens Club, 890 B Street, Brawley, CA.
