JAMES STORMS Obituary

JAMES EDWARD STORMS

Mar. 14, 1949 – Dec. 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved James Edward Storms, who entered eternal rest on December 24, 2024, at the age of 75. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

James is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia, and 6 daughters: Tamara (Dennis), Samara (Jorge), Marjorie, Melissa, Victoria, and Jayme (Richard). He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren: Marjorie, Miranda, Anastassia, Magnolia, Emily, David, Forrest, Virginia Jr., Andrew, Sage, Jorge, Ruby, Ethan, William, Ian, Jessika, James, Zander, Ryder, and Forrest Allen, his 6 great-grandchildren: Camille, Abigail, Zaylynn, Bentley, Ashton, and Winona, as well as his sister, Patricia Hunt (Ken), brother, David Storms, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

James was born on March 14, 1949, in Portland, OR, to the late Raymond and Mildred Storms. He was one of three children and spent his formative years in San Diego, CA.

After graduating in 1967 from Mt. Miguel High School, he served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country, he continued his career as a carpenter and later earned his contractor's license.

In 1979, the family moved to El Centro, creating lasting memories and strong family ties to the community. With an unyielding work ethic, he provided for his family while working in various security roles that reflected his protective nature. James dedicated nearly 25 years of service to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) until he retired in 2007. Even in retirement, he remained active, working in private security and at various community events, like the Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta, Cattle Call, and music festivals.

James had many passions. He enjoyed reading, drawing, and collecting coins, sports cards, lottery tickets, and family memorabilia. He diligently tracked the birthdays and anniversaries of his family members to ensure everyone was remembered and celebrated. He rarely missed an opportunity to support his daughters and grandchildren by attending their various sporting or school events. His greatest legacy is the love he shared for his family. Additionally, he proudly donated over 20 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime. He was honored to be a Master Mason of Imperial Masonic Lodge #390 and a Worthy Patron of Imperial Valley Chapter #276, Order of the Eastern Star (OES).

James will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his warm and welcoming smile, signature mustache, silly humor, "Grandpa jokes, as well as his love for Diet Coke, Cheez-Its, movie popcorn, and fried potatoes.

Family and friends are invited to Frye Chapel, at 338 W. Aten Rd. in Imperial from 10 to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, for viewing and funeral services, including military honors and both Masonic and OES funeral ceremonies. A private interment will be held at a later date. A reception will immediately follow at the American Legion Hall in El Centro.

Jim and Virginia through Girl Scouts When our girls were in second grade. Jim and my husband, Eddie clicked right away. Virginia´s troop and mine were camping troops. Both men love camping and building our camp fires. Made it easy for Virginia and I. Jim will leave me with fond memories of those days.
My sincere condolences to you Virginia and your beautiful girls.

Jimmy was a generous and caring person my sisters rock for as long as I can remember. Even if upset at me he would always allow me a 2nd chance. He will be missed by all lives he touched. More of a brother than my own were. Jimmy was a solid-constant influence. Love you and all the family. Condolences to all.

James Storms was a wonderful, civic-minded man. As coordinator for Imperial Valley Blood Services, I could count on seeing James every eight weeks to donate blood.

Not only James, but also Virginia and all six of his girls. I think it was a right of passage for the girls to start donating blood when they turned 17.

The Storms family is unique in that they all had O negative blood types, the universal donor, meaning anyone could receive their blood but less than seven percent of the population had it.

I am so sorry to hear of James' passing. I will remember him fondly. I'm also saddened that I won't be able attend his services because I recently had surgery myself but I will be thinking of James and praying for his family.

May he Rest In Peace.
