JOEL H. "HOPPY" WALTON

Hoppy passed away in his sleep at Salem hospital in Salem, Oregon from cancer. He fought the good fight.
Hoppy was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA to George and Natalie Walton. He moved to El Centro in 1950 while in the Navy, stationed at NAF Seeley. While stationed in El Centro he met the love of his life Carldean Luallin and they married in 1952. They had many wonderful years together before she passed away in 1998. Hoppy than married his second love in life, Evelyn Nauman in 2003 and they traveled between El Centro, CA and Salem, Oregon before settling for good in Salem in 2007. Hoppy had a great sense of humor and loved nothing more than being with family and having BBQ's and bonfires. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Hoppy served proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1970 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During his years in the Navy he served on many Aircraft Carriers including some of the old wooden deck flattops. After retiring from the Navy Hoppy went to work for the Imperial Irrigation District. He worked as a Zanjero, Hydrogapher and finally in Water control. He worked at the IID from 1970-1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Carldean.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Carla Hull, Donna Walton, Ronda Dramer, Vinita and Larry Linares, Joel and Isabel Walton, Cindy and Eric Jacobson; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Fair winds and following seas Chief. We loved you so much. We will all meet again at our last port of call for one more BBQ and bonfire.
No services will be held.

Hey pops, you are the best father a girl could ever have. You were a great role model and surrogate father to David. Without you I am not sure he would be half the man he is today. Sorry to hear of Hoppys' passing. I worked with Hoppy for many years and i loved his navy stories. The vision of sleeping on a carrier deck in the middle of the Pacific will always be with me. I am so sorry for your loss, Hoppy was a special person.

You were the best father anyone could have. You were there when anyone needed you and i will miss you always.You left behind a bunch of us who are a little lost right now but we will find our way. You always wanted to keep things on the light side, so in keeping in your tradition- To all of my sisters you know he loved me the most!!!!!
