JOSE ARVIZU Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Jose Guadalupe Arvizu announces that their beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at his home on August 29, 2017 following a long battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 62 years, Maria del Socorro Tiznado de Arvizu; son, Cesar R. Arvizu and his wife Mary Arvizu; daughter, Maria Magdalena Arvizu-Rodriguez and her husband Gilberto Rodriguez Cisneros; daughter, Elva Arroyo and her husband Francisco Arroyo; daughter, Elsa Carreno; son, Esteban Arvizu and his wife Elva Arvizu; son, Eduardo Arvizu and his wife Andrea Aguirre Arvizu; and daughter, Alma Leticia Arvizu. He is also survived and will be sadly missed by his 28 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. Born in Victoria, Guanajuato, Mexico, son of Magdalena Arvizu Mendieta, he came to the U.S. in 1954 under the Bracero Program. He met his beloved wife in Mexicali where the couple married, gave birth to six of their seven children and resided until he immigrated his family in 1970. He worked for Maggio Corporation in the Imperial Valley and King City, CA for 35 years. He was also employed for several years at Teixeira Farms and most recently at Fresh Packing where he proudly worked until the age of 81. He was well known for his strong work ethic and cheerful personality. His optimism, vigor and stamina were an inspiration to many. He believed in and promoted higher education and always encouraged his kids to attend college. He was proud of the educational attainment and career success of his children and grandchildren, most recently the multiple university admissions his first great-grandchild, 2017 Valedictorian at Bakersfield High School, has received. He was a strong believer in the Roman Catholic faith and loved sharing about his faith with others. For decades, he provided support to many ministries but one close to his heart was "El Sembrador Nueva Evangelizacion." For many years, he served with his church's prison ministry where he provided weekly visits to prisoners at the El Centro County Jail and shared about the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. He was humble and easily made friends with all. He was known for his easy going personality and his keen ability to strike a conversation with anyone, even those who may have been from different backgrounds as he. He loved people and enjoyed striking casual conversations with all. Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Holtville, CA with the Rosary at 7 p.m. A burial Mass will be at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 8th followed by graveside services at Terrace Park cemetery in Holtville.

My sincere condolences to your family. May God "who comforts us in all our trials" (2 Cor 1:4) comfort you and your family at such a difficult time. I know God will help you to endure because he cares for you (1Peter 5 :7).

I just wanted to let you know how sorry I am for your loss of Jose. It's never easy to go through loosing someone you dearly love. I hope you can find some comfort in your time of loss. Reading Isaiah 61: 1,2 helped me when I was going through my loss.
