LESLIE C. TORBETT JR.

Leslie was born in Calexico, California on January 30, 1937, to Leslie C. Torbett Sr. and Sybil J. Torbett. Leslie passed away at his home in Prescott Valley, Arizona surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

The Family moved to Brawley in 1938, where Leslie was raised and attended Brawley schools, graduating from Brawley Union High School in 1954. He then went to work at Brawley Grain Growers. In 1960, Leslie married Lucille C. Taecker and was drafted into the Army one year later. After serving in the military, he returned to Brawley and went to work for Jim Adams. In 1966 he took a job at the Brawley Fire Department where he climbed in ranks and retired as Fire Chief 26 years later. After retiring from BFD, Leslie started a new career as a bus driver for Calipatria Unified School District for another 5 years. After retirement Leslie and Lucille joined their two sons in Durango, Colorado and built a new home on 5 acres just outside of town. He worked for the Durango and Silverton Railroad for another 11 years, taking passengers to and from Silverton Colorado. He met people from around the world, including celebrities and old friends from home.

Leslie enjoyed playing golf, desert outings and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lucille "Taecker" Torbett, two sons, William D. Torbett and Matthew P. Torbett. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie C. Sr. and Sybil J. Torbett.

A memorial service and celebration of life is planned on December 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 1st and D Street, in Brawley, 92227. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or your favorite charity.
