LINDA ELAINE BURNS
Apr. 13, 1942 – Oct. 19, 2025
In Loving Memory of Linda Elaine Burns it is with deep love and fond remembrance that we share Linda went to be with the Lord peacefully on October 19, 2025, in Rosarito, BC, MX, at the age of 83. Born in Brawley on April 13, 1942, she was the daughter of Lela and Edgar Floyd. She attended Brawley schools and proudly graduated from Brawley Union High School with the Class of 1960, where she was known for her vibrant spirit and school pride. Linda continued her education at Imperial Valley College, where she brought her energy and joy to the cheerleading squad.
After college, Linda ventured beyond the Imperial Valley. She lived in San Diego and later the Los Angeles area, where she worked in the restaurant and insurance industries. Her kindness and charisma won her many lifelong friends during these years.
In 1980, on her birthday, April 13, Linda married her high school sweetheart, William "Billy" Burns, marking the beginning of a beautiful 29 year marriage. Together, they made their home in both San Diego and Imperial Valley, where they became a well-known team working side by side in the shipping department at Abatti Produce, Inc. in El Centro. Season after season, they coordinated the dispatch of thousands of trucks filled with fruits and vegetables that nourished families across the country.
Linda had a remarkable gift for friendship and community. A proud member of the BUHS Class of 1960, she affectionately called herself "The Class Mother." Over the course of 63 years she poured her heart into organizing 12 class reunions, keeping in touch with her classmates, and ensuring that every one of the 261 members remained connected. In 2023, her classmates honored her legacy by establishing the "Linda Burns Service Award," presented each year to a graduating BUHS senior who embodies her spirit of dedication and service.
Linda also gave her time generously to the Soroptimist Club and the Brawley Boys and Girls Club, lending her helping hands to their annual fundraising dinners and community events.
Upon retiring, Linda and Billy returned to the San Diego area, where they enjoyed their later years together until Billy's passing in 2009. In recent years, Linda made her home closer to her niece Donalene and her husband (Gary Tackett). Donalene and her husband ensured Linda felt loved and not forgotten. They also maintained constant contact with Linda by visiting her multiple times a week, taking her to all her medical appointments, captivating her with the local community events, and occasional rendezvous with her friends. Linda knew she was loved and well-cared for which brought her comfort and companionship.
Linda was preceded in death by her devoted husband, William Burns; her parents, Lela and Edgar Floyd; and her siblings, Don and Charles Floyd and Norma Gibson; and her brother-in-law, John Gibson Sr. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Floyd, Julie Floyd, and Carole Floyd, and her in-laws, Sharon & Richard VanBebber, Patty & Richard Guenther.
