Maria Eduarda Hickey (Eddy), 83, of Calexico, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, of cancer at her home in Calexico. She was born April 23, 1940, in El Centro, CA. She attended Calexico High School and graduated in 1958. Shortly after graduation, she joined the United States Air Force. She served for 4 years and was discharged in 1962. After her discharge, she got an Associates degree in Accounting at Imperial Valley College. She later went on to work for the State of California Unemployment Department, where she worked as a determination officer until she retired in the early 2000s.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her joy and the light she brought into every room.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Altagracia and Eduardo Martinez; brother, Pasqual Martinez; Felix Martinez; sisters, Rosie Cortez and Dolores Martinez

Maria is survived by her sister, Eloisa Espinoza; children; William Edward Hickey, Dolores Guillen Johnson, and Katherine McKuhen Hickey; grandchildren, Catherine Elizabeth Hickey, Amelia Johnson, Abigail Johnson, Aurora Johnson, Steven McKuhen, and Charity McKuhen.

Viewing will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 6 to 9 pm at Frye Chapel & Mortuary 338 W. Aten Rd. Imperial, CA. Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 11 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico. Following the mass, a Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm at the Women's Improvement Club in Calexico. Burial will be on Wednesday, May 18, 2023, at 12:45 p.m. at the National Cemetery of Riverside in Riverside.
