MAX CASTILLO Obituary

MAX J. CASTILLO

Oct. 12, 1940 June 26, 2022

Max J. Castillo, passed away and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2022 due to heart failure after suffering a heart attack in November, 2021. Max was 81 years old.

A native of the Imperial Valley, Max was born in Holtville, CA, on October 12, 1940, joining the family as the third youngest of twelve siblings.

From a young age, Max was known for his strong work ethic and ambition. He started working at Barbara Worth Golf Course when he was ten years old and never stopped working until his

heart attack.

He attended Holtville High School and graduated in 1958. In 1962, he married Rosalie Rivers and together they had two children, Chris and Natalie. Later in life he welcomed his second son, Anthony.

In 1969, he started a construction company, Castillo Construction which he owned and operated for fifty-three years. He first began building low-income single family homes for FHA.

Over the years he worked tirelessly to build the business and enjoyed working side by side with

his daughter, Natalie. Later he began specializing in commercial construction projects.

Max was a well-known builder, his legacy of building can be seen throughout the Imperial Valley. Max had a passion for Real Estate and got a thrill when he made a good real estate deal.

Max was enthusiastic and had a zest for life that was infectious to everyone around him. He was always optimistic and joyful. In his leisure time he enjoyed spending time at his home in San Felipe, Baja California with family and friends. He was an avid spectator of Score off-road races.

He had a true love for the Imperial Valley. He loved spending time with his grandson, Andrew, whether it was playing chess or trips to San Felipe. He participated in a variety of sports. He was a boxer and a golfer in his youth and enjoyed scuba diving, playing tennis, and riding motorcycles and jet skis.

He supported the local community and was a founder/ organizer of Community Valley Bank and served as a commissioner on the Imperial County Planning Commission. He was a member of the Imperial Valley Navy League. His faith was an important part of his life and as such he served for many years as an Usher at St. Mary's Catholic Church and as a member of the finance

committee.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher; his parents, Jose and Cornelius; brothers, Greg, Braulio, Doc, and Frank; and sisters, Rosie and Mona.

Max is survived by his daughter, Natalie (Andy); grandson, Andrew Cole; son, Anthony; sisters, Mary, Clem, Rae, and Patty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

I offer my most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Max´ family and all who knew and loved him.

Max was always positively encouraging, smiling, joyful and shining the love of the faith he carried in his heart ... his entire life and being was a quiet testimony to this.

We will be reading and hearing about the lifetime of beautiful deeds Max selflessly and quietly did. He will also be remembered for a job well and honestly done - memories of comfort for his precious family.

It is beautiful that Max is now in the loving arms of our Father, hearing His personal "well done" as he was received in heaven and as it is written in -Matthew 25:23- "His master replied, `Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master´s happiness!´"

And yes, "well done" Max and God Bless you and your family for the beautiful footprint you have left in the Imperial Valley through all your generous acts of kindness.

Rest in His eternally peaceful Glory. Amen.

I knew Max Castillo and his daughter Natalie from my work at USDA, Farmers Home Administration. He would help build homes for low income buyers who wouldn´t have had a chance at owning a home if it weren´t for our program. He was such a sweet man. My heart and prayers goes out to him and his family and friends during this difficult time

My uncle max was a great uncle and friend. I remember when I would pull in At 2 or 3 am to have coffee coming home from my rodeos. We were always welcome . And later we would come stay at his house during rodeos in the valley and always had to barbque. That was a must, and sit outside by the barbque pit and have a few drinks and just chat. He was the best host! You'll be missed.
