ROBERT BREEZE Obituary

Robert (Bob) Anthony Breeze went to be with the Lord and his beloved mother on May 24, 2021, in Pocatello, Idaho. Bob was born in Oakland, California on August 25, 1946. He was the first son of John Robert Breeze, and Galina Sophia Teschevitz Breeze. Both of his parents were survivors as prisoners of war in detention camps in the Philippines from WWII. Bob was the first born and took on many of the burdens of a first born while growing up on military bases before his father and mother established their permanent residence in San Diego, California. After graduating from Clairemont High School in San Diego, Bob attended the University of California Los Angeles in both undergraduate and at law school. He was considered to be the scholar of the family. Following graduation, Bob met and subsequently married Virginia Whitehead and they established their residence in Anchorage, Alaska. Bob passed the bar exam and was in private practice for many years in Alaska. He became a borough attorney for the Greater Anchorage Area Borough before returning to private practice in his own law firm. Bob enjoyed the outdoors of Alaska and the changing seasons and was an avid fisherman and he would entertain many friends and clients on his motorboat while fishing for sockeye, salmon and halibut. Bob returned to San Diego, California as a result of health problems and lived in his own condominium beginning in 2006. He suffered from parkinsons, leukemia, and diabetes. He was an avid sports follower and always kept up to date on his beloved Padres. Bob wanted to return to the Pocatelo, Idaho area where his father grew up and many of his extended family still lived. The pandemic slowed down the progress of Bob being able to get up to visit his family. Nevertheless, he kept in touch with his Aunt Ana Breeze and was in Pocatello, Idaho and had just attended a family reunion on the date that he passed away. While coming back from the reunion Bob was giddy with excitement after renewing his friendship with the Breeze clan in Pocatello before he got back to his hotel room. Bob loved the Pocatello area and spoke of relocating to Idaho as soon as his brother retired. Bob was a patron of the Zoological Society in San Diego and the UCLA Alumni Association. He kept many of his ties to UCLA alive through the UCLA Alumni Association and attending weekly breakfasts with alumni association members. He will be remembered as a dutiful and loving son, a devoted brother and a dependable and trustworthy friend and neighbor. Bob is survived by his wife, Virginia; his youngest brother, John W., his sister-in-law, JoAnn Breeze and his stepsons, Mark and Matthew Regan. Services will be private.

I worked with Bob at the Greater Anchorage Area Borough Legal Department in '74 and '75. Bob passed on to me the administration of the Borough's Legal Intern program which he had started and paved the way for necessary contacts at UCLA, Cal-Davis and University of San Diego. From those contacts we recruited many fine interns, many of whom became some of the best and well know attroneys in Alaska including a number of State Superior Court Judges as well an one former intern who served on the Alaska Supreme Court and now the 9th Circuit of the US Court of Appeals. Bob deserves recognition for his vision of creating that program that contribution so much to The Alaska Bar.

I remember Bob well when I worked with his brother, John Breeze. He was as smart and sharp as John. Bob gave me many insights especially when he would take me to lunch. His brain overwhelmed me with his concise thoughts and ideas. He was a good man. Friendly to all we encountered. I will never forget him.
