Rogelio De La Rosa, 84, of Imperial passed away August 17, 2021 of natural causes in his home.
Rogelio was raised in Calexico, CA and graduated from Calexico High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960 as a machine mate on the U.S. Point Defiance LSD 31. A retired Immigration Officer for the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, he served the United States government for over 30 years. During the course of his career in immigration, he worked at the El Centro Detention Center, the Calexico Port of Entry, and in El Centro as the chief legalization officer processing immigrants for the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986. He retired as a Senior Immigration Office in 1994. In addition to a career of service, Rogelio served his community as a baseball and softball coach, positively impacting the lives of Imperial's youth.
Visitation for Rogelio will take place Thursday, September 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Mass, officiated by Father Alex, will commence at 10 a.m. Friday, September 24 at St. Anthonys Church in Imperial. He will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico following Mass.
Rogelio was preceded in death by his father, Transito De La Rosa; mother, Ramona De La Rosa; brother Jose De La Rosa; and sister, Raquel Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Beatriz, Imperial, CA; daughter, Yvonne Keaton, Imperial, CA; son, Rogelio De La Rosa, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Sandra De La Rosa, El Centro, CA; daughter, Loraine De La Rosa, Paso Robles, CA; grandchildren, Jeannette, Tara, Alyssa, Alejandro, Armando, and Catalina; grandson-in-law, George; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emilia, and Xavier; four brothers, Raul, Ramiro, Ruben, and Renaldo; two sisters, Rebecca and Rosamaria; four sisters-in-law, Ramona, Aurelia, Olga, and Carmen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
