SCOTT ROGER AKERS

Scott Akers, 68, was born in Oakland, CA, to Edith "Peggy" and Harry A. Akers. He grew up in Walnut Creek, CA where he attended Walnut Creek UMC.
After he married Suzanne Selberg, she contracted Valley Fever and they moved to Calexico for her health. For over 30 years he taught Social Studies, History and IHH. He also taught ABE and classes at San Diego State University, Calexico.
Scott was involved in California Retired Teachers' Association, Sons on the Golden West, and Gideons. He was very active helping others by volunteering many years for the American Lung Association, the IV Foodbank and in El Centro's United Methodist Church helping the homeless and Camp Cedar Glen, Julian.
He is survived by his son, Steven (Kit) Akers; sister-in-law, Pat Kushlis; niece, Michelle Brockett; cousins, Lois Ann Johnson, Tom (Susan) Bigelow.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne; sister, Robin; daughter, Suzanne Michelle; parents, Peggy and Harry Akers.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First United Methodist Church, El Centro, on Saturday, March 14, at 3 p.m. There will be light refreshments following the service.

Scott was a wonderful person, I have many fond memories of him at CHS in the early 80´s, and also hosting him in England.
