Shirley Louise Axler, age 94, of Brawley passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. She was born on November 20, 1926 in Brawley, California, the daughter of Herman and Jennie Jeska. She was the oldest of 9 siblings and graduated from Imperial Valley Union High School on May 31, 1946. During her teen years, Shirley worked for her parents in the family-owned store, plunge and dance hall.

On February 14, 1948, Shirley married the love of her life, Fred Axler. They recited the sacred vows of marriage in front of family and friends at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Yuma, Arizona. Shirley was a strong farmers wife and attentive to the needs of the farm and her family. She could always be counted on for great conversations on the porch swing. She taught her grandchildren to pause and appreciate Gods choir as they walked around the fields of the farm.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Axler and her daughter, Sheree Storey.

Shirley leaves behind the memories and legacy to carry on with her son, Larry Axler; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Cope; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service and burial will be held 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21st at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Shirley. Her husband, Fred, and my mother Lillian were cousins. I remember them visiting our farm in Iowa in about 1952 and we then visited them in CA in 1965. She was a very pretty and vivacious lady.
