SUE HEGER Obituary

SUE CAROL HEGER

Mar. 6, 1940 – July 21, 2024

Sue Carol Heger-Hanna, born on March 6, 1940, in Brawley, California, was a beacon of compassion, love, and support to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her thoughtfulness shone through in every aspect of her life, from her career as an Organic Produce Broker to her role as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. As a member of the Valley Christin Church, Sue lived her life by the Christian proverb, "Let all you do be done in love"(1 Corinthians 16:14).

In her professional life, Sue was a pioneer, one of the few women who solely sold organic produce, initially under the Heger Organic Farms label and later, after the death of her first spouse, Lloyd, under Joe Heger Farms. For 30 years, Sue devoted herself to the agriculture industry, demonstrating the same dedication in her work as she did in every aspect of her life.

Sue's love extended beyond her work to her beautifully kept home in El Centro, where she resided for 84 years. Known for her discerning eye for beauty, she decorated her home with her beloved collection of Llardo figurines, her "girls." Sue's green thumb was legendary, her garden always blooming with vibrant flowers. She was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for romance novels, and looked forward to her afternoon drives with her cherished husband, Virgil, and their dog, Miss Betsy. However, Sue's greatest pride and joy were her children. Her daughter, Mitzi, now a nurse practitioner, and her son, Joseph, a farmer like his father, were the center of Sue's universe. She instilled in them a solid work ethic and taught them to treat others with respect. She relished in sharing stories of her granddaughter Tara's volleyball and softball games and her grandson Brock's races. She enjoyed the granddaughters, Baleigh and Blyns activities with 4H and FFA.

Sue leaves behind her loving husband of 20 years, Virgil Hanna; son, Joseph Heger (Stephanie); grandchildren, Brock (Allie), Baleigh and Blyn Heger; daughter, Mitzi Gragson (Larry); and grandchildren, Bradley and Ethan Gragson, Eric Gragson, Tara Ryan (Sean); and great-grandchildren, Kellan and Hadley Ryan.

Services will be held privately at a later date.

Dear Heger and Hanna families and friends, Sue will missed. A charming and hardworking woman of faith. An inspiration to others. She lived next door to my mother Winnie for many years. A kind and generous neighbor.

One of the nicest ladies you'll ever meet. Always had a kind word and special treat for us neighborhood kids at Halloween. Lots of cookies, candied apples and brownies. Aurora drive won't be the same without her. She will be missed for her generosity and pure love. Sending love and prayers to the entire Heger family and all who knew her. - Laura Richards and family, granddaughter of Flora Valdes
