TOMAS JORQUERA MEDINA

Tomas Medina, a long-term resident of Imperial County, graduated into glory on August 6, 2025. Born in Culiacan, Sinaloa, he was the 10th child of his parents and first to survive past his toddler years. In 1960, he immigrated into the United States and worked as a laborer. He became a resident in 1962 and by 1964 began to work for Quality Hay Company until 1988. In 1989, he was hired at Wilbur Ellis and remained there until his retirement in 2016.

He married the love of his life, Matilde Vidal Moreno, in 1963, and together formed a family of six daughters and one son: Maria de Lourdes (Mateo) Valverde, Maricruz (Romeo) Rodriguez, Matilda Medina, Graciela (Adam) Espinoza, Helen Medina, Gabby Medina-Lopez, and Elijah (Veronica) Medina, along with 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. His love and faith in God encompassed everything he did. He enjoyed composing songs, singing and playing his guitar. Having no formel education, he self-taught himself to read and write so he was an avid reader until his last day.

He would often bring into memory the struggles he overcame when he came into the US alone, not knowing the language but working hard, getting married, sending his children to school. He was very proud of his American citizenship and thanked God every day for the blessings bestowed upon him. In his last days, he would say he wanted "to show that the Lord is upright, He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him" (Psalm 92:15).

Services will be held at Frye Chapel, located at 338 W. Aten Road, Imperial, CA, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m.
