VERNA WHITE Obituary

VERNA MAE WHITE

Sept. 16, 1935 – Sept. 24, 2025

Verna Mae Sharp (White), age 90, passed away September 24, 2025, in Houston Texas. She was born on September 16, 1935, in Carlsbad, NM, and the daughter of the late Howard Taft Sharp and Odessa Dell Sharp.

Verna moved to Imperial Valley, California, as a toddler where she lived on the infamous Kornbloom Ranch. Whenever she spoke of the ranch, she made it feel like it was heaven on earth. Most of her mom and dad's family, at some time, lived there also as the ranch provided them food, work, and family togetherness. She was raised with her older sister, Dorothy, and younger sisters, Louise and Mary, and the only boy, brother Larry. She spoke about her dad and uncles getting in the truck and bringing home jack rabbits for dinner. She also told of all the fun they had swimming in the canals. When mom spoke about the ranch, you'd have thought it was a tropical paradise.

She later attended Brawley Union High School, where she was homecoming queen. That's when she began seeing young Tommy White (now 91) who she would marry when she turned 18. They were married for almost 73 years.

Verna attended nursing college for a short while before marrying and having kids. She is survived by her husband, Tom; her three boys, Greg and wife, Jennie, Gene and wife, Robyn, and Chris and his wife, Lynn; grandkids, Brandy, Danielle, Jacob, John, James, Joseph, Joshua, Joel, Stephen, Brenna, Daniel, and Chessa; and her great-grandchildren, Ethen, Case, Jorin, Cara, Teddy, Aurora, Ayla, Bria, Evan, and Jonas, and more to come.

Verna will be most remembered for her beautiful singing voice, constant laugh, her love for playing her piano, and all the love and hugs that she gave. She poured herself into the lives of others, always willing to listen and help. She was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She's now in heaven, right where she belongs and is awaiting our arrivals. She will be missed by all.

I am very sorry to read about the passing of a very dear friend in Verna White. I had the pleasure of knowing her at BUHS and that of her family, namely Louise, Mary and her husband, Tom. I got to see Verna and Tom twice over the past many years as we both live in Texas. My heart goes out to Tom, a great high school football player, husband and friend as well as her family and friends who I know will miss her dearly. She is with God in Heaven, making it a better place now that she is there.

May God bless you Tom and her family during this difficult time.
