Donald Sherfinski Obituary

Donald Thomas Sherfinski, age 79, went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 1, 1946, in Muskegon, Michigan, to his parents, the late Herman and Rose Sherfinski.
Donald is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Rebecca; his children, Christa (Andrew) Steadman, Laura (Robert) Lerma, David (Jessica) Sherfinski, and Patrick (Shaunna) Sherfinski; 10 cherished grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Christine Medearis of Tennessee, Pauline Kerr of Washington, James (Glenda) Sherfinski of Texas, Darlene Hathaway of Grand Rapids, Bernadine Whitcomb of Wolverine, Georgene Harkness of Colorado, and Val (Marge) Sherfinski of Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
An avid outdoorsman, Donald found great joy in hunting and fishing. He had a wonderfully quirky sense of humor and a gift for storytelling that brought laughter and warmth to all who knew him. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Donald deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and treasured time spent playing games, particularly euchre. He dedicated his life to serving others, guided by his strong faith and love for Jesus. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his faith were evident in all he did.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, November 20, 2025, St John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Randy Koenigsknecht officiating. Cremation will follow, and interment will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 711 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Jackson, MI 49201.

My deepest condolences to Don´s family. I´ve been blessed to know him for around 2 years and in that time I became his partner in greeting parishioners entering the church. He shared many wonderful stories with me in the process and his awesome sense of humor always brightened my day. He was one of the hardest working people I´ve ever met, through his dedicated service to the community as a Knight. He will be truly missed by many that he brought smiles to.

Uncle Don was kind enough to invite us to hunt with him on his property and was there when I got my first deer. He was welcoming, kind, and eager to help me learn. He showed me how to field dress the animal and even carried the deer back to camp slung over his shoulder (An impressive feat considering his age at the time). It is a rare man that has both knowledge and the patience to share it. He will be missed.

Boy was I lucked I joined the Knights of Columbus around 4 years ago and that is were I met Don what a gift it turned out meeting Don.
Don was one of the hardest working knights in our group along with his wife Becky they were always at the church and school doing some kind of yard work to make our grounds look top notch and always looked fantastic because of their hard work.

Don was also so much fun to be around he always had great stories to tell you.

Don I will really miss you my friend save me a seat in heaven.
