Richard Dale Cunningham, 86, of Jackson, MI, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Richard's family and friends will gather from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, with Rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Eineder Funeral Homes – Michigan Center Chapel and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Our Lady of Fatima in Michigan Center, MI. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima. Rev. Fr. Amal Rayapillai, SdC and Fr. Satheesh, SdC will concelebrate. Interment will take place at Roseland Memorial Gardens with miliary honors.

Richard was born on July 19, 1939, in Hudson, MI, to Ronald and Alberta (Cornell) Cunningham. He graduated from Addison High School in 1958. Richard married the love of his life, Sandra Lucile Long, on June 19, 1965. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1958 where he proudly served and retired as a Master Sargeant in 1981. After his honorable service, Richard worked construction with his father-in-law and then joined the Michigan Department of Corrections as an officer. He retired from the MDOC in 1996. During retirement, he worked at the Grande golf course, policing the grounds. Richard loved to golf, bowl and play horseshoes, where he was a 3-time champion. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and all other outdoor activities. Richard could always be found doing something, whether it was with work, his lawn or with family. He loved staying busy. He will be remembered as a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather, who will dearly be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Richard will be missed by his wife, Sandra; his children, Stacey (Robert) Casanova and Lance (Amy) Cunningham; his brother, Roger Cunningham; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and many extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Alberta; and 6 siblings.
