Dorothy Lockman Obituary

Services for Dorothy Lockman 94 will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday June 10 2004 in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nowell Bingham officiating. Miss Lockman died Sunday June 6 2004 at Alexandria Place where she had resided for four years. She was born in Memphis TN January 11 1910 the daughter of Rev. William Slater Lockman and Sallie Evelyn Johns Lockman. Miss Lockman graduated from Hardin County High School and continued her education at Murray State College and received a Masters Degree from George Peabody College in Nashville. She taught in Mercer Toone Beech Bluff and other schools in Madison County TN prior to retiring as librarian with the Humboldt City School System. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years she was also a member of the Tennessee Education Association and the Retired Teachers Association of Gibson County. She is survived by a niece Margaret L. Peter of Tulsa OK two great nephews William Peter and Michael Peter a great niece Linda Peter and a special friend and caregiver Mary Patsy Lonon of Brownsville TN. Miss Lockman was preceded in death by her parents a brother DeeWitt Lockman and a sister Frances Lockman Massey. The family will be receiving friends Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church. The family requests that memorials be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Jackson Hospice or any charity of the donors choice.
