Greg passed away after a long illness on Friday November 18 2005 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born in Jackson TN on January 15 1959 the son of the late Carl Lee and Valda Crider Perkins. It is so hard to put into words that sound so final but it is not the end. Greg is in Heaven now and finally at peace with himself and God. He was a wonderful husband loving father and was known as a giving and caring person with a heart of gold. Greg was a very passionate person who loved gardening and anything to do with the ocean and most of all he loved his music. He worked with his father Carl Perkins and brother Stan Perkins on the road and in the recording studio playing music for some 30 years. His work took him all over the world and he worked with many different people in the music industry. Some of the highlights in his career were writing music with his father on "The Birth of Rock and Roll" also working with Dolly Parton and his work with the HBO Special "Carl Perkins and Friends". Greg is survived by his wife Dawn who were high school sweethearts and they were married for 26 years. He is also survived by a son Jay to whom he devoted his life to; and by a sister Debbie Swift and husband Bart; two brothers Stan Perkins and wife Connie and Steve Perkins and wife Donna; and several nieces and nephews; and two aunts Clara Crider and Martha Bain. The family would like to thank the many Doctors and Nurses that have helped with the care for Greg through the years. Memorials may be directed to the Carl Perkins Center for Child Abuse 217 E. College St. Jackson TN 38301. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel 731-427-5555
