James Jones Obituary
Jackson - Jim was born on November 6, 1933, and passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. J. Cecil and Lucille Swann Jones and sister, Elsie Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Williams Jones of sixty years, son, John David Jones, and daughter, Julie Lynn Jones of Jackson, TN; his brother, Robert Jones (Peggy) of Dunn, NC, his sister, Betty Ann Manly (Don) of Bradenton, FL, his sister-in-law, Tharon Scott, of Newport News, VA; ten nieces and nephews, and twenty great nieces and nephews.
Jim was ordained into the ministry at the age of 16. He received his BA Degree from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, and his Masters of Divinity and PhD from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He served as pastor of Audubon Baptist Church in Louisville, KY, and Antioch Baptist Church in Henderson, TN; as Interim Pastor of First Baptist Church in Ridgeley, TN, Cottage Grove Baptist Church in Cottage Grove, TN, and most recently, First Presbyterian Church in Selmer, TN. He also was an Associate Professor of Religion at Union University, 1979-1987.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, TN. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. in Memorial Hall. A private burial will take place at 11 a.m. at Ridgecrest Cemetery.

To The Family of Dr. James Cecil Jones Jr., , please accept my condolences. You may find comfort in knowing that the God of comfort feels your pain and sorrow. He actually provides something better to look forward to. Jeremiah 29:11 specifically tells us God wants to give us a peaceful "future and hope." Jan, Joe Thornton phoned me on Sunday and told me of Jim's passing. I am so sorry! My thoughts and prayers are with you, Julie and John. When Ron passed away a dear friend sent me a bible verse which has become one of my favorites. I am passing it on to you. She is clothed in strength and dignity and she faces the future without fear.
