Jean Dodds Obituary

Jean McDaniel Dodds

Jean McDaniel Dodds, age 83, died Friday evening at Jackson General Hospital.

Mrs. Dodds was born in Henderson County, TN, the daughter of the late Jim Curtis McDaniel and Pricilla Pauline McDaniel.

Jean had a love for people and made her life's work helping them. She was a nurse for Dr. Oscar McCullum at the Medical Building/Jackson Clinic of Henderson. Through her nursing career she made lasting friendships. She was always supportive to everyone who knew her while either holding someone's hand, listening to problems or baking a cake. She was the life of the party, and visiting at her home resulted in always being fed. If you were lucky enough to be working at her home, in addition to monetary compensation, a goody bag would always leave with you.

She was an avid gardener and her yard was a showplace every spring and summer. Her winter months were busy with quilting, knitting and cross stitching. These hand stitched treasures were gifts to family members at special events in their life.

She was an example of love, compassion and kindness to her family and friends and she will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dodds; son, Danny Dodds; grandson, Casey Steven Dodds; sister, Caroline Murphy.

Survivors include her children, Sheila Dodds Evans (David) of Luray, TN, Steve Dodds (Sandra) of Lexington, TN and Dicky Dodds of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Lane Evans (Christy) of Murfreesboro, TN, Kyle Evans (Cara) of Lebanon, TN, Cole Dodds (Leigh) of Jackson, TN and Laurie McBride of Lexington, TN; great grandchildren, Martha Ann Evans, William Darby Dodds, David Wylie Evans, Jarrett and Jacob McBride; sisters, Dorothy Blankenship of Lexington, TN, Ann Columbus of Henderson, TN, Wanda Feldman of Chicago, IL and Mary Baker of Oxnard, CA; brother, Billy McDaniel of Darien, IL; very special friend, Dan Eaker of Henderson, TN

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2012 at Shackelford-Johnson Chapel in Henderson with burial in the Mifflin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 2-9 p.m. at Johnson Chapel.
