Lyle Newman Obituary
Southaven, MS - Lyle Newman, age 58, airline pilot for U.S. Airways, was born January 20, 1954 in Washington, DC and passed away July 20, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto in Southaven, MS.
Mr. Newman was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and a U.S. Air Marshall.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Himel Newman of Southaven; one son, Dustin Newman of Jackson, TN; one sister, Beth Newman Speece and her husband Vincent of Huntsville, AL; and one uncle, Maury Bynum and his wife Graciela.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lyle E. Newman, Jr.; one daughter, Brooke L. Newman; and his parents, Ruthe Bynum Newman and Theodore Sidney Newman.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 25th from 2 p.m. until the service begins at 4 p.m., at Getwell Road United Methodist Church in Southaven. Burial will follow in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven.
Arrangements are in the care of Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven, (662) 349-9720.

Still in our hearts, Lyle!
Lyle and I go back to Humboldt, Tn. He was manager/flight instructor of the little FBO there in 1976.
He preceded me to Piedmont Airlines by 2 months in 1986.
Today, 7/28/2022 is the 36th anniversary of his Piedmont class date.
Several of your classmates have "gone west" with you Lyle.

What a great Man and Angel has in heaven!!! Godspeed!!! I felt honored to call Lyle a friend. Always made the Best of the flights he flew!! Helped me when I came back to work from having back surgery and he always would help me with my suitcase!! What a Gentleman he was!! R.I.P. Lyle

I had the privilege of knowing Lyle from the Piedmont days(1985-87). Lyle was the consummate aviator and gentleman. He was a true friend and anyone who knew him was better for it.
We were all disappointed when USAIR bought Piedmont but Lyle ALWAYS had a positive attitude and cheered up a room,
Lyle, you will be sorely missed....May God comfort your family.
Fly west my friend and we shall meet again.

I flew with Lyle on the E190 and he quickly became my friend. A bright and gentle man, I truly enjoyed spending time with him on trips. He introduced me to New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood and those fried oyster po' boys...
