Ruby Perry Vantreese Wood

Mrs. Ruby E. Perry Vantreese Wood 90 of Jackson TN died peacefully on September 5 2006 at her home after a long illness. Ruby was born on March 23 1916 to James Washington Perry and Sarah Lillian Tomlin Perry in Madison County TN. She was raised in the Perry Switch Community and she attended Malesus School. Ruby was married on July 12 1935 to Arliss A. Vantreese who preceded her in death in 1961. She later married Robert L. Wood of Arlington VA on March 20 1971. They spent several years in Arlington until Mr. Wood's retirement. They returned to Jackson in 1978. Ruby was a member of North Jackson Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of Bon Air Baptist Church in Arlington VA and joined Englewood Baptist Church upon her return to Jackson. Ruby enjoyed many years teaching Sunday School and working in various church roles. Ruby was a beautician and she retired as owner of Town Country Beauty Shop in the Simpson Center at Highland Park upon her marriage to Mr. Wood. Ruby is survived by her husband Robert L. Wood Sr.; two daughters Jean E. Vantreese McKenzie and husband Cleatus Ray Mac McKenzie Sr. of Jackson TN and Virginia Ann Vantreese Morris and husband Billy Wayne Morris of Lexington TN. She also leaves two sons Robert L. Wood Jr. of Arlington VA and Michael E. Wood of Arlington VA and West Palm Beach FL; four grandchildren Debbie McKenzie Simcox and husband Mike of Memphis TN Mike Morris of Lexington TN K. Michelle Shelly Booth and husband Brent of Lexington TN and Cleatus Ray Randy McKenzie Jr. and wife Carole Ann of Hernando MS; nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers James Garland Perry James Cecil Perry and wife Jean and Wayne Tomlin Perry and wife Dot all of Jackson TN. She is also survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including Lydia Perry Hettie and Perry Moss Ben and Margie Wood Ruby Nell and Jerry Wall Birdie Mae Wilson and several nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Walter Dennis Perry and one sister Gladys J. Perry Bowers. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 7 2006 at Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at Englewood Baptist Church on Friday September 8 2006 at 1:30 P.M. with visitation from 12:00 noon until time for the service.
