CLINTON COX Obituary

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home 3960 Lafayette St. Marianna, FL 32446 526-5059 Clinton Theo Cox Clinton Theo Cox, 84, of Bascom passed away on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, in his home. He was a native of Jackson County and a member of the Circle Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Cox traveled the world during his 30-year career in the Navy. He served as a master at arms, a flight deck crew chief on the aircraft carriers U.S.S. Saratoga, U.S.S. Kearsarge and the U.S.S. Shangrila, and a crash and salvage instructor. He was a veteran of World War II and retired in 1963, after having received numerous commendations. He returned to Bascom and worked for 20 years with the Department of Corrections at ACI before retiring a second time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ola Avery Cox; sisters, Daisy Bassett and Lizzie George; and brothers, Thomas Cox, Leroy Cox, Eugene Cox and C.W. Cox. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Pearl Cox of Bascom; son Dale A. Cox of Bascom; daughter Sandra Donaldson of Montgomery, Ala.; brother Alfred Cox and wife Sharon, of Bascom; sisters Emma Lou White of Bainbridge, Ga., and Ruby Lee Anderson of Marianna; grandchildren William Cox of Bascom, Alan Cox of Troy, Ala., and Clint Donaldson of Atlanta; sisters-in-law Merle Miller of Bascom, and Millie Floyd and husband Roland, of Tallahassee; brother-in-law Ronald Bassett of Joliet, Mont.; and a host of nieces and nephews. The graveside funeral service will be Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m., with the Revs. John Holley and Monroe Campbell officiating. Interment to follow in the Circle Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home, from 5 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to Circle Hill Cemetery Fund, 7170 Circle Hill Road, Sneads, FL 32460; or Covenant Hospice, 4440 Lafayette St., Suite C, Marianna, FL 32446. Mr. Clinton will be missed by me and my family. He was the reason I joined the Navy. As a young boy, he taught me and my brother to work on small engines, that is a skill I still cherish today. Thank you for everything. My prayers are with your family.
