Corey-Kerlin Funeral Homes & Crematory 940 Cesery Boulevard Jacksonville, FL 32211 904-744-8422 www.corey-kerlin.com Eugene "Geno" Powers Eugene "Geno" Powers, 78, of Jacksonville died Feb. 18, 2010. He was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Mount Ash, Ky., to the late Lee Ander and Dessie Moses Powers. Geno was a devout son, husband, brother, father and grandfather. He served his country proudly with the Army during the Korean War, in which three of those years were as a prisoner. After the Korean War, he completed his GED, attended Cumberland College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Carson-Newman College. While residing in Fernandina Beach he was employed by Container Corporation of America. In 1973 he moved his family to Jacksonville, where he worked as an insurance agent, retiring from Liberty National Life Insurance Company. He was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was ordained a high priest and became a temple worker and sealer in the LDS Orlando Temple. He also loved spending his time reading and studying the scriptures. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Myrtle Dixon Powers; sons Michael and Seth (Melanie); daughters Angela and Jennifer (Scotty); grandchildren; and friends. Visitation with the family is Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville. Funeral services are the following day, Wednesday, Feb. 24, 10 to 11 a.m. EST, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7665 Ft. Caroline Road, Jacksonville. Graveside services are at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, at 12:30 p.m. EST. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the VAMC Palliative Care Program, Attn: Dr. Leslye Pennypacker, 1601 Southwest Archer Ave., Gainesville, FL 32608.
