Delbert Jacot Obituary

Delbert E Jacot

Delbert E Jacot, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2012 surrounded by his loved ones. Born October 6, 1924 to Bernard and Emma Behringer Jacot in Buck Creek, IN. He graduated from Buck Creek High School in 1943.

Delbert married the love of his life, Helen R Baker on June 22, 1949 in Lafayette. Helen preceded him in death on February 5, 2007.

Delbert was in the United States Navy from 1943-1946, sailing the high seas and back to Los Angeles on the USS Olmstead. Some of Delbert's most vivid memories of World War 2 were being stationed in Tulagi in the battle of Saipan.

He was a member of the Carpenter's Union at National Homes Corp. He became a licensed Barber in 1949 and enjoyed his profession until his retirement in 1969. He also retired from NFIB and from Purdue University as Night Auditor in 1990. Delbert wasn't one to sit around, so he worked at Meijer in Lafayette for several years, where he enjoyed working in the public and helping customers.

Delbert enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors. He would spend his days outside taking care of his garden each year all the way up through the summer of 2011. His garden was not toil for him, but a labor of love for the earth. He had a wonderful friend in his sweet pet cat, Cupcake, and it made his heart happy to be able to have her companionship.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Forty & Eight, having served as the Chef de Gare during his membership.

Surviving are two sons, Terry L (Teresa) Jacot of Frankfort, and Gary L Jacot of Lafayette, a sister Mary Nell Schaible of Lafayette, granddaughter Jessica (John) Lindsay and great granddaughter Addison of Greenwood, grandson Tony Jacot and great grandsons Brenden and Alijah of Dayton, and step grandchildren Brandi, Jason and Courtney Mooneyhan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and a brother Clarence Jacot.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Daniel Gartland officiating. Entombment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the 40 & 8 in memory of Delbert. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care. Your dad was one of the kindest people I have ever known. Everytime I saw him, he had a smile on his face. I now he loved you and your mom with all his heart and will be greatly missed. I'm sorry we couldn't be there but know that we are thinking about you.
