Gordon Cutter Obituary

Gordon A. Cutter

Gordon A. Cutter, 62, of Brookston, beloved father and grandfather, passed away at home on Monday, March 2, 2015. Born September 7, 1952 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Willard and Leona (Hoefer) Cutter. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and attended Vincennes University. He honorably served in the Army reserves.

Gordon married Shirley A. Wulff Benham at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and they were married from 1973 to 1992 and later divorced. He married Joni Mitchell and they also divorced.

He was a truck driver most of his life. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. He was an avid San Francisco Giants, Chicago Bears, and Purdue Boilermaker fan.

During his youth he enjoyed countless basketball games against his brothers and the neighborhood kids in his garage, nicknamed "the Cuttertrapolitan," where to this day he remains undefeated. In high school he excelled in basketball at Central Catholic, where he was named MVP by his peers his senior year.

As a father he would enjoy Saturday fishing trips to the river or Sunday afternoons playing basketball in the driveway, or designing football plays in the yard with his sons.

As a grandfather he will be truly missed, especially during birthdays and the holidays, as he always made them so special. He always spent as much time as possible with the grandchildren as often as he could.

He'll also be missed and remembered by his many, many friends for being the life of the party and living life to its fullest. He loved singing, dancing, and any reason for a celebration. Even in his passing he would want the celebration to go on.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph A. Cutter (wife, Holly) of Lafayette and Gordon Thomas Cutter (wife, Julie) of West Lafayette, a sister Sandra Gookins of Moraga, CA, two brothers Willard "Bill" Cutter of Brookston and Tom Cutter (wife, Jan) of Lafayette, and seven grandchildren, Anthony Davis, Sean Cutter, Hayley Cutter, Ty Cutter, Dustin Baldwin, Dalton Baldwin, and Hayden Campbell.

Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m., with funeral service to follow at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Celebrant Chris Dodson officiating.

Celebration of Life Gathering will take place immediately following the service at the Knights of Columbus, 218 S. 4th St., Lafayette, IN, 47901 Memorial contributions may be made to the Lafayette Boys and Girls Club.
